In Mathew 2:13, St. Joseph was told by an angel in a dream:  “Arise, take the young Child and His Mother, flee to Egypt, and stay there until I bring you word; for Herod will seek the young Child to destroy Him.” St. Mark Coptic Orthodox Church in Winnipeg, Manitoba organized the First Egyptian Coptic Heritage Festival in June, 2006 to celebrate the Holy Family’s flight to Egypt and to provide an entertaining educational venue to present and promote the Egyptian Coptic Heritage to Canadians and other nationalities. The Festival started on a small scale through several specialized committees such as: Marketing and Public Relations, Cultural/Heritage and Entertainment, food and setup, maintenance and parking committees by talented and inspired members of the Coptic congregation in Winnipeg. Each year has a different spiritual theme that is presented within different interactive and entertaining activities. The Festival takes place over two days in June of every year, as it is the month of when the Holy Family’s flight to Egypt where they lived for three years. The Spiritual, Heritage and Food stations are the most popular festival activities. The number of visitors varies from 500-700/year and this depends on the volume, frequency and scale of advertisements.
